Jacqueline has over 27 years of experience as a certified health and fitness professional and utilizes movement as treatment, guides and coaches her clients towards a healthier lifestyle, achieving optimal health, function and fitness and prevention of chronic disease. Most common chronic medical conditions can be prevented with "Lifestyle Medicine (such as exercise, healthy and nourishing food, and stress relief)", healthy lifestyle habits can stop and even reverse chronic disease such as heart disease, diabetes type 2, rheumatoid arthritis, high cholesterol, hypertension, obesity, and even reverse cellular aging.
She specializes in exercise program development and exercise training mature adults (40+), active agers and seniors; her oldest client is 98 years of age.
Jacqueline launched Fitness & Function in 2003 and expanded the business with a team of highly qualified personal trainers, coaches, medical exercise specialists and licensed physical therapists. Fitness & Function extended the service area to be able to reach and help more individuals with in-home wellness services.
Jacqueline has served as a Subject Matter Expert on the Exam Editing Committee for the American Council on Exercise (ACE) Personal Trainer and the (ACE) Medical Exercise Specialist. Jacqueline is among the first graduates of Leadership in Wellness Management, a certificate course by a global organization recognized as a leader in the field, the International Council on Active Aging (ICAA).
As a health coach Jacqueline' passion is promoting the benefits of a low fat, minimally processed whole food plant based (WFPB) to nourish the body and to stop, reverse and prevent the many common diseases 70% of American are suffering from. The correlations between the most common health problems and diet are well documented by both the National Institute of Health NIH and American Heart Association AHA. Dean Ornish PhD, John McDougall MD., Diseases such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, elevated cholesterol and triglyceride, some types of cancer, degenerative joint disorders and inflammatory arthritis, etc. are most often caused by a diet high in animal products and low in plant foods. Jacqueline is a graduate of the Dr. McDougall Starch Solution program that teaches the principles behind the McDougall Program – a clinically proven means of weight management that can reverse or prevent many common illnesses, all by simply altering your diet. In September 2019 she attended the three day intensive program in Santa Rosa CA and enjoyed lectures by Dr. McDougall, Dean Ornish MD, Jeff Novic MS, RDN, Doug Lisle PhD, and Anthony Lim, MD, JD.
Jacqueline has a degree in Gerontology and is the first fitness professional in Oregon to receive certification as a FallProof™ Balance and Mobility Specialist Instructor from California State University - Fullerton, Gerokinesiology Department, and is an authorized provider for the Stay Well At Home Program also developed by CSU. Jacqueline was sponsored by the Oregon Health Authority to attend the Stepping On Workshop Leader Certification. This program is aimed to help Oregon seniors reduce their risk of alls, improve their ability to safely navigate their environment and improve quality of life. She is a recognized Master Personal Trainer by IDEA Health & Fitness Association (2004).
Jacqueline has been a frequent speaker promoting the benefits of exercise to senior groups and related organizations such as the 2017 Annual State of Oregon Long-Term Care Ombudsman meeting, the 2016 launching of Viva Village NW, 2015 Western Regional Geriatrics Care Manager's Conference, THPRD
Health Fairs and quarterly wellness series seminars, Lake Oswego Adult Center, Rose Schnitzer Manor and other local assisted living and independent living facilities, and for the NW Bicycle Safety Council.
Being a certified American Heart Association Heartsaver instructor and she provides instruction in AHA Heartsaver First aid, CPR, AED training to families and businesses and has done this in the past for the American Council on Exercise, and the American Heart Association HeartQuarters or-Headquarters in Dallas TX.
Jacqueline developed the term 'Home Fitness Care', a unique service for older adults that provides specialized exercise and therapeutic exercise interventions on an on-going basis aimed to help older adults remaining functionally independent and/or mobile so that he or she can stay at the home of his/her choice for as long as possible.
Jacqueline was born in The Netherlands and been in the United States over 35 years.
She is an active volunteer with the NW Bicycle Safety Council for over 10 years and
currently serves on the Executive Board as the Fitness Expert, in the past she served
as the Treasurer and was a member of the Advisory Board. Jacqueline has also made
several TV appearances on the Cycology Today show for her expertise in health and
fitness. Jacqueline has two adult daughters, and one grand daughter, she enjoys the
hiking and cycling in the outdoors and travel.

Jacqueline received honorable mention in the 2002 NuStep Pinnacle Award for developing older adult programs that go above and beyond the standard wellness programs offered. In 2003 her Falls Prevention Training workshop was accepted by Oregon Department of Human Services for continued education credits for adult foster home providers.
In 1997 she received the "Support Personnel Award" from the Greater Boston Federal Executive Board in recognition and appreciation for outstanding contributions to the federal government.
